The introduction of a railgun type weapon into Overwatch's cast of hero abilities came with it's own set of difficulties and new problems.
High level players were forced into using this character for the purpose of abusing the One-Shot mechanic that was easy to obtain, hit, and a hero kit built around the ability.
At 1 charge, the hitbox was akin to pixel perfect (Widowmaker for instance) and as charge built up to 100 the hitbox grew to the same size as Hanzo's projectile arrows.
Having a hitscan (instant travel time and unaffected by gravity) weapon that also had a hitbox size of a projectile that One-Shot heros while also having a difficult character hitbox, high mobility, and a utility ability to flush players out from corners was insanely broken.
How should it function instead?

Overwatch is a team-based hero-shooter that released as a skeleton of a game and has been gradually developed into a welcoming AAA title. The artistic style of the game is spot-on beautiful, and the lore allows for diversity in the roster to the point of a grizzeled old military veteren playing alongside a tesla-toting Gorilla and a cyborg ninja. In no other game before this would one even remotely imagine playing a First-Person game with this diverse a roster with unique abilities, sizes, weapons, and movement capabilities. Who could possibly turn down an invitation into such an inviting world; featuring such intense and diverse gameplay?

The long awaited sequel to Overwatch, boasting robust Player-Versus-Enemy (PvE) missions has entered "Early-Access." Releasing the Player-Versus-Player (PvP) experience worldwide without the PvE content. Essentially, Overwatch 2 is a direct engine update to the original and a PvP format change from 6-Players-Versus-6-Players (6v6) to 5-Players-Versus-5-Players (5v5). The original intention behind the transition from 6v6 to 5v5 was Queue Times, Individual Agency, and Visual Clutter. Amoung the many different systematic, role-specific, and individual hero changes established between the original Overwatch and the sequel; One hero in particular was moved to a different role. This character was: Doomfist.

Mercy was designed as a Gateway character into the First-Person-Shooter (FPS) genre, allowing even newcomers to video games, or FPS in general, to have an impact in a multiplayer match. Amoung the more difficult heros to play, there are easier alterantives so even the average (or below) can still join the community and have fun playing the game. This becomes problematic when low-skill heros output more value than high-skill heros, afterall why play a more difficult hero if you cannot get more value than an easier hero?
